It was a joyous night for many Bianconeri involved in international fixtures, not least for Matthijs de Ligt who helped the Netherlands become the tenth European nation to earn their place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Juventus centre-back played the full 90 minutes in his side’s 2-0 victory over Norway, with late goals form Steven Bergwijn and Memphis Depay helping the Dutch secure top spot in their qualifying group and a passage through to next year’s global spectacle.
Already-qualified France ended their campaign with a 2-0 victory away in Finland, Adrien Rabiot playing 86 minutes in that encounter, while Aaron Ramsey was substituted off in injury time in Wales’ 1-1 draw with Belgium which secured their place in the World Cup Play-offs.
In South America, Rodrigo Bentancur played the entire match as Uruguay went down 3-0 away in Bolivia, while Juan Cuadrado featured for the full 90 minutes as Colombia earned a point in a goalless draw with Paraguay.
The highly-anticipated clash between Argentina and Brazil ended 0-0, the former mathematically securing their spot in Qatar while Alex Sandro and Danilo played the entire match as the Selecao solidified top spot in their qualifying pool.
