A versatile and physical player, who can also play as a midfielder but has played both left-back and as a central defender in England in recent months, Veiga is gifted with great athleticism, making him a threat on set pieces and in aerial duels.

Born and bred at Sporting CP, the 21-year-old rose through the capital club’s youth ranks, making it all the way up to the senior squad before going on to play in the Bundesliga at Augsburg in the 2022/23 season. After a year in Germany, a move to Basel followed, where he established himself as a key component of the Swiss club and attracted the attention of Premier League side Chelsea.

Bought by the Blues last summer, Veiga made a total of 18 appearances in the first half of the season, contributing two goals and one assist, all of which came in the Conference League.
