With the April international window coming to an end, we've taken a look back at how each of our internationals fared with their respective nations over the last couple of weeks.
NIGERIA
There’s only one place to begin with this international recap, and that is with Joe Echegini and her Nigeria who sealed a place at the Paris Olympic Games later this year. Their 0-0 draw against South Africa after a 1-0 first-leg win saw the Super Falcons secure their ticket to the Games.
ITALY
Although the international window started well for the Azzurre with an impressive win over the Netherlands, they fell to a 2-1 defeat in Helsinki against Finland. Martina Lenzini, Lisa Boattin, Arianna Caruso and Sofia Cantore were all named in the starting XI, with Cristiana Girelli coming on in the second half.
NETHERLANDS
In the same group as Italy are the Netherlands, with Lineth Beerensteyn in their ranks. After losing to the Azzurre, they picked up three important points away at Norway and Lineth was the goalscorer in their 1-0 triumph. That win leaves all four teams in the group on three points.
FRANCE
Pauline Peyraud-Magnin kept a second straight clean sheet for France. After a 1-0 win over Ireland, they secured another win with the same scoreline against Sweden to go two for two to open their Euro 2025 qualification campaign.
SWITZERLAND
After a win over Turkey and Viola Calligaris’ brace, Switzerland comfortably beat Azerbaijan to take six points from the six available. Viola started again for the Swiss.
BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
Gloria Sliskovic and her international teammates fell against Northern Ireland in a 3-1 loss. Bosnia and Herzegovina fell behind but did they restore parity before going on to lose.
CANADA
Julia Grosso and Canada came close to winning the SheBelieves Cup, eventually falling just short to the USWNT. Julia came on in the second half and scored her kick in the penalty shootout, but the US emerged victorious.
THE UNDERAGE INTERNATIONALS
Italy’s Under-19s lost 4-1 against England, having drawn against both Portugal and Switzerland. They took the lead against England before losing the game with both Azzurra Gallo and Ginevra Moretti on the pitch from the start and Greta Bellagente coming on in the second half.
Another young starter was Elsa Pelgander with Sweden’s U19s, and they also fell to a 4-1 loss, this time against Germany.
