Opposition Focus | Ten things to know about Genoa

Friday sees Juventus travel south to Liguria, as they prepare to take on Genoa, promoted back into the Italian top-flight this season, at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium.

Despite a defeat in Genoa last time out, Juventus hold a healthy record against the Grifone, and are the Serie A team that have earned the most victories and scored the most goals against the Ligurain outfit.

Ahead of Friday night's 20.45 CET kick-off, here's ten things to know about the opposition.

1. After a streak of five defeats in a row against Juventus in Serie A, Genoa won their last match against the Bianconeri in the league (2-1 on 6 May 2022) - the Grifone have not achieved two consecutive successes against the Vecchia Signora in Serie A since 1991 (three in that case, with Osvaldo Bagnoli as coach).
2. Genoa remained unbeaten in five of the last six home league games (W3, D2), obtaining seven points in the last three games at Ferraris; the only home defeat in the period came against Milan on 7 October (0-1).
3. The Grifone have scored at least one goal in each of their last six home games against Juventus in Serie A, after failing to score in six of their previous 10.
4. Friday’s home side have scored 67% of their goals in the first half this season (10/15), a record percentage in the 2023/24 Serie A.
5. Genoa have scored 27% of their goals from outside the area this season (4/15), no team has done better in the 2023/24 Serie A season.
6. Genoa have hit the woodwork nine times this season, only fewer than Frosinone (10) so far this term.
7. Stefano Sabelli is the Genoa player who has made the most crosses from open play in this Serie A (46), at least 33 more than any other teammate.
8. Morten Frendrup has won 107 duels in this Serie A, at least eight more than any other player in the league.
9. Juventus is Ruslan Malinovskyi's favourite target in Serie A: three goals (all coming in the last 15 minutes of the game). The Ukrainian midfielder could score in three games in a row for the second time in his Serie A career, after doing so in April 2021 (the first match of that streak was against Juventus).
10. Koni De Winter never made his debut in Serie A with the Juventus shirt, but he played two Champions League matches in the 2021/22 season for the Bianconeri.
