Juventus Women set history once again by claiming their fourth consecutive Serie A title after defeating Napoli 2-0 on Saturday afternoon at Campo Ale & Ricky of Vinovo.
The Bianconere came into the game knowing that only one more point in their remaining three more games would be enough to secure the league trophy, and they made their intensions of winning clear from the get-go.
Barbara Bonansea saw her dangerous run on the edge of the box come to a stop when she was brought down. Boattin and Girelli stood over the ball to take the free kick, which saw the latter’s effort sail over the target.
Juventus’ persistence saw them grab the lead in the 19th minute when Maria Alves’ cross met Girelli, her header was saved by Tasselli, but there was nothing the former ex-Bianconere goalkeeper could do when she tapped in the rebound. That brought her tally of goals in Serie A with the club to 50.
Rita Guarino’s girls doubled the lead 10 minutes later when Bonansea, who was left unmarked in the box, turned in Maria Alves’ cross from close range to put one hand on the Scudetto trophy.
Into the second half and Juventus started it by nearly making it 3-0 through Girelli, who rounded the ball just wide of the post. Caruso on her 100th appearance for the club attempted a goal from 20 yards out that sailed high over the crossbar.
A chance then fell to Lundorf just before the hour mark: she controlled the ball in the box and then tried to lob it into the net but it went just over, before Tasselli denied Rosucci in front of goal.
The Bianconere were dominating play and it Bonansea went agonizingly close to getting her second of the day when her curling strike rattled the crossbar with force. Giuliani was then called into action, which she dealt with with ease, before a breakaway by the hosts saw Girelli's strike from range smack the woodwork.
Juventus Women claimed all three points, and, more importantly, the league title!
