Nil-Nil at the San Siro between AC Milan and Juventus, at the end of a match tightly contested affair.
Juve were on top in the opening stages: the Bianconeri, without Dusan Vlahovic today, fielded a line-up that was nonetheless attack-minded, with four forwards in Francisco Conceicao, Kenan Yildiz, Weston McKennie and Teun Koopmeiners.
The Bianconeri took the initiative from the outset: in the 8th minute Andrea Cambiaso caused problems down the left-hand side before crossing into the middle where Conceicao’s volleyed effort was blocked. Shortly after the quarter-hour mark, Federico Gatti called Mike Maignan into action with a effort from the around the edge of the area.
Juventus threatened down the left again on the 20th minute, this time through Yildiz, but Maignan was on hand to deny his low effort. Juve's best chance came in the 23rd minute, when Yildiz again struck an effort from the edge of the box, this time hitting the post.
The second phase of the first half was decidedly less intense and exciting, with Juve unable to make many attacking inroads and Milan making their way into the Bianconeri penalty area for the first time in the 28th minute, with a header from Alvaro Morata.
The second half started in the same vein as the first, with both teams concentrating on defensive solidity rather than chance creation.
In the 50th minute, Juventus created the first real opportunity of the second half: McKennie found Cambiaso with a precise pass, but the full-back's shot was deflected behind for a corner by Malick Thiaw. The Bianconeri gained some momentum and in the 59th minute won three consecutive corners but were unable to convert any of them. Following that, in the 63rd minute Yildiz did well to win the ball back from Yunus Mush, before finding Khephren Thuram, but his shot was too central to trouble Maignan.
Juventus tried to pose a threat through Yildiz, who was lively throughout, but his deliveries were unable to find a teammate. In the closing stages, Nicolo Fagioli attempted a shot from distance in the 82nd minute, which was blocked by the Milan defence. The home side came close in the 94th minute, right at the death, but Theo Hernandez’s headed effort was denied by Michele Di Gregorio.
