Cristiana Girelli scored the only goal of the game to see Juventus secure all three points against Empoli in a 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon at Vinovo.
The game welcomed the return of league action following the international break, and Juventus were looking to continue their winning run. Barbara Bonansea nearly grabbed an early goal on two occasions, but Capelletti was equal to both occasions. Bonfantini forced an excellent save from the Empoli goalkeeper in the 20th minute when she fired an angled strike that was palmed away for a corner before Capelletti proved once again equal to the challenge and blocked Girelli’s curling free-kick. Girelli, who scored two headers against Hellas Verona, nearly added another one to her tally, but unfortunately, it skimmed just over the crossbar as the half-ended goalless.
Into the second half and it was Bonansea who once again tested Capelletti with a ferocious shot that was palmed away, Girelli ran onto the rebound and tried to restart the play, but the offside flag was raised. Girelli then had the ball in the back of the net in the 50th minute, with a stunning angled finish, only to see the linesman once again raise his flag. Empoli then threatened through Pugna, who turned her effort onto the woodwork.
Caruso and Hurtig were introduced into the game in the 63rd minute, and the Swede almost immediately had an impact when she rattled the side netting. Girelli hit the crossbar again with another glancing header, before then grabbing the breakthrough in the 70th minute when she nodded home Rosucci’s assist. The Bianconere remained in control of the game, as they claimed yet another victory.
